My first ever Ping.Sg outing! To a Pasar Malam no less~

Maybe i'm bored, maybe i'm a bit jumping the gun, but maybe its just me.

I saw this topic on a Ping.Sg gathering, and i decided to join in despite joining Ping.Sg just a while back.

Basically they were planning to meet up for a "UFO Sighting", and about 8 of us turned up. There wasn't really any plan for the day, other than looking at the UFO, and eating Ramly burgers. Heh. Thanks to Xizor who sponsored the Burgers =)

Some of them joined us halfway, and in the end we had quite a huge crowd of 12 people, like Paced who organized the whole thing, her boyfriend dhope (i think), chillycraps, Xizor, nannywen, Rinaz and her bro, and Rinaz's friend Attilo, who's from Italy. Phew. That's quite a list.

Yeap, after we bought the burgers, we sat down and talked. And talked.. and talked. Til around 10:30pm. We really chatted about alot of stuff, from ping.sg stuff, to blog advertising, to the moon, to Wii.. yea, loads of stuff.

Well, since i don't know a lot about Ping.sg, i just stayed quiet for an hour+, before i decided to chat up Dhope who was beside me. That's when i really started to talk lar. But i was so tired then.. the headaches were coming (Curse this headache which started from monday and never did cease)!

Anyway, despite a pretty awkward start, i did have fun, and carried on talking with Xizor on the journey back. It was a pretty enjoyable evening, and yes the Ramly burger tasted pretty good. I didn't eat the UFO though, and definately not the weird stick like things which tasted sucky to them. Haha.

Okay, here are the few pictures i took.

Cool Slideshows!

Now i'm just waiting for the next outing. Thanks to Paced for organizing this one~

29th August 2007 - Low energy day + Meeting with Min Yi + Xuting -

Alright.

Wednesday was bad. I didn't had any energy to do anything, and i felt crappy.. the entire day! Believe it or not?

Only event of the day was probably the pizza hut meeting with Min Yi and Xuting. Actually i was just supposed to pass Min Yi her present and be done with it, but she suggested we have dinner as well, and i'm fine with that.

I'm just glad that Xuting came. Xuting is the girlfriend of my good friend Weisiang, and is the good friend of Min Yi.

And yes, i'm glad Xuting came cause we were the ones having the conversation most of the time. Heck, i don't believe me and Min Yi actually had a conversation going on at all. At most 2-3 lines of words before it stops.

Min Yi must be the most unique girl i've ever met. She's so different from when she's smsing or writing in the letters.. maybe she's just not used to me yet *shrugs*.

The dinner was enjoyable enough without being too awkward, and i had alot of laughs, being the 'chandler' like me. Haha.

Xuting is very easy to make 'laugh' of as well.

And one thing is i'm glad i finally passed her the present. If you don't already know, i had to look online for the present, ask my friend to buy it, arrange time meet him, waited for him at his place, went to his place, buy wrapping paper, wrap it up, tried to pass it to Weisiang and ended up waiting 90 minutes in vain, fell down on the way home, until tonight.

A sigh of relief wouldn't do this justice.. haha. But really, i'm just glad that's over.

Wanted to take a pic of her in her short hair, but no, seems she's against cameras.. so nope. No pictures for you~

3 simple lines, but the impact of this will be enormous. Once again the public has decided to organise a peaceful demostration. But will the government listen?

HK Scam - part 1

I'm sure most of you have heard of the Nigerian scams, where they email you about someone rich dying, and they have a huge amount of money in the bank which they cannot take out, until you help put in a certain sum. In which, they will then pay you up to 1 million bucks.

Recently i was involved in a Hongkong scam.

This is the first time i've ever said it out to anyone, so most of you will be surprised. Before you read on, know that my only tangible loss was that of a few minutes of international airtime, but my intangible loss was how i was actually excited at thinking i would be able to get that sum of money, only to find out its a scam.

After all, in this world, if its too good to be true, it probably is. I was left feeling pretty dejected for the rest of the day after the excitement faded when i realised it was a scam.

Okay, the details.

Somewhere around the 30th of July, i received a phone call from a private number. When i picked it up, this lady Chen Lijun said that she's calling from a HongKong company, and that they're doing some promotional activities and needed me to partake in a survey.

I was thinking.. huh? Hongkong company? How on earth did you get my number, and why me? But since its international airtime, i had to speak quick. Basically she asked me if i supported the IR, and the casinos. Even though i said i didn't, she proceeded to give me a number, and then told me to look out for their event, which will be shown in TV. Stef Sun will be participating in it too.

I thought nothing of it, and checked my phone to realise that they've been trying to call for quite a number of times prior to today. Hmm.

A week later, she called again to tell me to watch the show, or to attend it. I think it would be near impossible for me to fly to HongKong to attend it, and i did have something on that night, so i wouldn't be able to look at the show, even if they were showing it on SCV anyways.

And so once again i thought nothing of it until a week later, when i received another call from her..

To be continued..

Quotes

Here are some quotes that i've read up, or seen in books, posters.
This also serves as a test feed. Want to see if i can finally get it up.

Got this from a book. On Fear.

Fear is like a wound within our emotions. You heal a fear much like you heal a cut in your hand. If you ignore the cut, it will get infected. But it will heal itself if you recognize its existence. What kind of fear is it? Poverty, loneliness or rejection? Then use common sense. Don't let the fear get infected. Often we burn 70% of our emotional energy on what we fear might happen (90% of which won't happen). By devoting our energy to our other emotions, we will heal naturally.

Got this from a newspaper article in the Straits times:
zen means to return to this moment. Hear the bird, hear the rain, feel the wind. That's zen. Fully living in the moment. When we're eating, eat. When we're walking, walk.

From a movie?
Fate does not seek our consent.

Saw this on a poster:
6 most important words: i admit i made a mistake
5 most important words: you did a good job
4 most important words: what is your opinion
3 most important words: if you please
2 most important words: thank you
1 most important words: we
least most important word: i

Got this through my counselor:
How to handle difficult clients.
Apologize. I'm sorry that you're feeling this way. With all due respect, i don't think you are in a rational state of mind right now to talk. I will take my leave and come back in 5 minutes time, hopefully you will have recovered by then.

Powerful words all..

WP cycling event cancelled

As most of you probably don't know, WP has supposed to have a cycling event this coming sunday to commemorate their 50th anniversary. Nothing much, just cycle and have fun, but however, our permit was not approved by the police.

TOC has done a very nice write-up, describing how i feel about this whole event. Basically, why the leading political party can have numerous events and activities and even their very own cycling trip by their youth wing, while the WP can't.

LTA survey

Hi guys, i got this in my email.

Survey allowing pets in MRT stations/trains

‘ALLOWING PETS IN MRT STATIONS/ TRAINS’

LTA (Land Transport Authority) is currently reviewing our Rapid Transit Systems (RTS) regulations to ensure they are relevant to societal changes. For example, should pets be allowed in MRT stations or on MRT trains?

As the Land Transport Authority is usually the one who sets these regulations, which then affect the buses and trains, it's good to reflect to them that people do not have an issue with animals on trains - it would certainly allow for easier transportation of cats to the vet!

Email forward from William: Hope everybody can provide a positive feed back to this survey. If you personally feel that as long as all small animals such as hamsters, rabbits, birds, cats and small dogs kept properly in a cage, they should be allowed in the bus or train. I have spoken to 1 of the kind lady who rescues cats from HDB area, specially when the cats are injured or weak, she has to pay a lot more to take taxi to the vets. So lets do our part to make this happens.

Kindly forward to other persons that may also like to take part.

The LTA survey ends on end of August; ie. 31st August '07.

http://talk2lta.lta.gov.sg/Surveys?action=Public.Survey.DisplaySurvey
So please do what yr conscience tells you to do..

Thank you.

Weekend roundup - Monday blues -

I know if i don't blog my weekend entries, i probably won't, so here it goes. I'll make it short.

On friday we had the walk the talk thing @ work.
Basically we all had to wear red, and just walked around the the surroundings of our workplace. Then took a group photo. Think its all for show lor.

Cool Slideshows!

Then after the walk, a few of us played some soccer. Its been so long since i played.. that i ran out of gas pretty quick. Thankfully i wasn't alone. I think i played horribly though. Probably need a hell lot of practice...

Went home after that to shower, then meet up Weisiang and the rest in HKS. There's a Scouts competition on Saturday, and we were the host, so basically we had a lot to set up.

I was to be one of the judges together with some old friends, and i stayed and had fun til around 11+, where i couldn't take it anymore and went home for dinner and sleep.

Woke up less than 7hours later, and realised that i'm out of Scout Shirts. Had to wear my Navy T-shirt over. Walked over, and basically what we're afraid of half happened. Because of the late notice, only 2 primary schools and 3 secondary schools turned up.

But that was better than nothing actually. Thank you Jurong Primary, Rulang Primary, Yuan Ching Secondary, Fuhua Secondary, and ugh, i can't remember the last school. Pioneer?

Damn this monday blues thing.

Anyways there were 3 events each for both primary and secondary school. Scouts have an additional Captain's ball event. Sour grapes, chariot race and Kim's game.

Sour grapes = Tie a 3m pole on a 5m pole, and they have to climb up the poles and drape 8 scarves over it. First one to get all 8 up wins.
Chariot race = 2 poles on top of each other, and one in the middle. They have to tie 5 knots to connect all the poles, and one person has to hang on to the 'chariot' while the other 2 drags the pole to the finishing line.
Kim's game = set of 30 items, 3 people in a team looks at the items for 30 seconds, and after that, they have 1minute 30seconds to write down all they can remember. Colour + item. This cycle repeats for 1 more cycle. 4 minutes in total.

Overall i had alot of fun, even though i was just a judge. I sure hope the other schools had even half as much fun as i had... These are some pictures i took.

Cool Slideshows!

And after that, i went home sunburnt, to shower and change, before i went to Jurong Primary School's open house. Its actually an occasion for their Alumni to come back and take down all their particulars and everything..

But what i saw were just ... stalls inside classrooms. The entire first level were stores after stores after stores.. sort of like a bazaar. They had some games on the 2nd level..

And i saw loads and loads of mei meis.. or what Noel would say, Jail Bait. Haha. Figure it out yourself. It was nice to see so many young people, but it does make me feel a bit old, especially when i see the year of graduation where everyone puts 2005 or something, and i put 1996. Haha.

Anyways these are the pictures...

Cool Slideshows!

And with Min Yi's presents in my bag, i was to meet Weisiang at chinese garden at '3 - 4' according to him. So i got there at 3:30, called him and he's still at home. Think he was sleeping cause he didn't sleep the entire night.

Called again at 4:15 and he said he's still at home, coming over soon.

Called again at 5pm and he's still at home. I gave up and went back.

Sigh, i was so tired.. i slept really late these past few days, and that 1 1/2 hours would have been better used sleeping at home lor. If you wanted to sleep, just tell me mah, then i don't have to waste my time liao. Just say.. is it so hard?

On the way home i even fell on the floor. Luckily the presents didn't get crushed or anything.

Suay way to end the day i guess.

Sunday morning i woke up at 7:30 again. Had to go for Hammer Sales.
Basically sold Wp's Papers, The Hammer, with Mr Low Thia Kiang, and Mrs Low. Zhong Nan was the runner. It was okay lar.. what can i say?

slept in the afternoon, then went out with Jack for dinner, and we walked over to Boon Lay Shopping Centre where i got a new keyboard and a usb connector thingy. It was fun catching up again.

Next sunday we're going to JB. Sort of a pre-birthday trip with him.
And on to Monday...

27th August 2007

I really got the monday blues man. Not only was i wearing blue, i woke up feeling horrible (again), and for the whole day i just didn't feel like doing anything.

Had to work of course, but its sort of like half hearted. Just couldn't concentrate.
Had a nice long chat with Mandy as well, and bleh, she's now the President of the Sibei Sian of Mondays Club. SSMC in short. I'm the VP.

Anyways we shared a sibei sian monday together. And i now know more about her. Still dunno whether i'll be getting her any present for her wedding. Have to see how.

Went to PS to collect complimentary Rush Hour 3 tickets, then went back to Jurong where i borrowed a book, and sat there for a bit while waiting for Barry and Kelvin. Played pool for an hour+, before i had dinner with Barry.

Then off to home.

Crap. Now i feel really tired.. zzz.

davyds birthday celebrations

alright.. as you already know ctrl and alt isn't working on this keyboard at home, so bear with me.

i actually had the chance to celebrate davyd's birthday with him twice.

once with the law poly guys and girls at the village..
i had a lot of fun there. the atmosphere was just slack and relaxing..

these are some of the pictures..

Cool Slideshows!

and when i thought that was over, i was invited to another birthday bash for davyd by johnnie. this time at the fish and co near parkmall. it was with his cell mates, and i had the chance to meet nicole again, who once again entertained me with loads of .. 'jokes'. i had some of my own to counter her, and after all that, i felt thoroughly stupid and brainwashed. haha.

after all, its not everyday we regress to think of answers to these 'qian bian wen da ti'.. i got invited to their cell next thursday at davyd's house.. think i'll just go there and take a look.

right, the pictures are below.

Cool Slideshows!

Bet you never knew touch was important

This is a link to an article, about how important touch actually is.

I'll quote two paragraphs that struck me as very true. Now i know why i feel so violent sometimes .. haha.

Bertrand Russell once wrote: "Not only our geometry and our physics, but our whole conception of what exists outside us is based upon the sense of touch." But our experience of touch is dwindling. Increasingly we live alone, have virtual friends, shy away from any kind of physical contact with strangers for fear it might be unhygienic or inappropriate or could become violent.

The effects of not touching can prove detrimental to our wellbeing, both as individuals and as a society. "When you touch or are touched, you get the feeling of being connected with yourself and with others," Aleksandrowicz says, placing one hand on my arm. "When I touch you, you feel my touch - so by my touch you feel that you exist and you can connect with me. It is a feeling of being important, of being taken care of."

Poem like story

Okay, be warned, this is a very long story i saw from the forums, but i liked it towards the end.. for it touched my heart..

Her hair was up in a pony tail,
her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school,
and she couldn't wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her,
that she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,
if she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid;
she knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates
of why he wasn't there today.

But still her mother worried,
for her to face this day alone.
And that was why once again,
she tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school
eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees
a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back,
for everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently,
anxious in their seats.

One by one the teacher called
a student from the class.
To introduce their daddy,
as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,
every child turned to stare.
each of them was searching,
for a man who wasn't there.

"Where's her daddy at?"
she heard a boy call out.
"She probably doesn't have one,"
another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,
she heard a daddy say,
"Looks like another deadbeat dad,
too busy to waste his day."

The words did not offend her,
as she smiled up at her Mom.
and looked back at her teacher,
who told her to go on.
And with hands behind her back,
slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child,
came words incredibly unique.

"My Daddy couldn't be here,
because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be,
since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,
I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy,
and how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories
he taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses,
and taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes,
and ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him.
I'm not standing here alone.

"Cause my daddy's always with me,
even though we are apart
I know because he told me,
he'll forever be in my heart"

With that, her little hand reached up,
and lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat,
beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere in the crowd of dads,
her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter,
who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love
of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her,
doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down,
staring straight into the crowd.
She finished with a voice so soft,
but its message clear and loud.

"I love my daddy very much,
he's my shining star.
And if he could, he'd be here,
but heaven's just too far
You see he was a fireman
and died just this past year
When airplanes hit the towers
and taught Americans to fear.

But sometimes when I close my eyes,
it's like he never went away."
And then she closed her eyes,
and saw him there that day.

And to her mothers amazement,
she witnessed with surprise.
A room full of daddies and children,
all starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,
who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second,
they saw him at her side.

"I know you're with me Daddy,"
to the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,
for each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,
was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a
moment, by the love of her shining star.
And given the gift of believing,
that heaven is never too far.

They say it takes a minute to find a special
person, an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them, but then an entire
life to forget them.

Very funny flick, this is where they try and make you laugh, and if you do, you'll be spanked.. a Jacky Wu's variety show.

This is the Japanese version.

Things Japanese do with their food

From sgforums, look what the Japanese did with their food~

This specially created human-faced watermelon which looks rather cute is used as an interior decoration and no, it is not made of plastic, it is the real thing. Priced between 50,000 yen ($420) to 80,000 yen ($672), it is mostly purchased by restaurants which put it up on display.

These star and love shaped cucumbers look lovely too.

Three tomatoes that have grown into a shape resembling a rabbit’s head have emerged as a hit here after popping up in the garden of a local resident.

The tomato figure appeared in the home garden of a 75-year-old resident in Buzen, and soon became the talk of local residents.

The part resembling the face measures about 5 centimeters in diameter, and the ears are 3-4 centimeters long each. The 75-year-old resident harvested it at the end of July, and her daughter-in-law kept it in a refrigerator at her office.

Every day, local residents have taken photographs of the “rabbit tomato” and commented on how cute it looks. For now, it looks unlikely to end up on anyone’s dinner plate.

Some old lawyer jokes

Report in the Massachusetts Bar Association Lawyers Journal, the following are questions actually asked of witnesses by attorneys during trials and, in certain cases, the responses given by insightful witnesses:

Q: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning?
Q: The youngest son, the twenty-year old, how old is he?
Q: Were you present when your picture was taken?
Q: Was it you or your younger brother who was killed in the war?
Q: Did he kill you?
Q: How far apart were the vehicles at the time of the collision?
Q: You were there until the time you left, is that true?
Q: How many times have you committed suicide?

Q: So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th?
A: Yes.
Q: And what were you doing at that time?

Q: She had three children, right?
A: Yes.
Q: How many were boys?
A: None.
Q: Were there any girls?

Q: You say the stairs went down to the basement?
A: Yes.
Q: And these stairs, did they go up also?

Q: Mr. Slatery, you went on a rather elaborate honeymoon, didn't you?
A: I went to Europe, Sir.
Q: And you took your new wife?

Q: How was your first marriage terminated?
A: By death.
Q: And by whose death was it terminated?

Q: Can you describe the individual?
A: He was about medium height and had a beard.
Q: Was this a male, or a female?

Q: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice
which I sent to your attorney?
A: No, this is how I dress when I go to work.

Q: Doctor, how many autopsies have you performed on dead people?
A: All my autopsies are performed on dead people.

Q: All your responses must be oral, OK? What school did you go to?
A: Oral.

Q: Do you recall the time that you examined the body?
A: The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m.
Q: And Mr. Bennington was dead at the time?
A: No, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy.
Q: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
A: No.
Q: Did you check for blood pressure?
A: No.
Q: Did you check for breathing?
A: No.
Q: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
A: No.
Q: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
A: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
Q: But could the patient have still been alive nevertheless?
A: It is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere.

22 August 2007 - Wednesday -

I was just looking through my friendster list, and i was wondering..
Who are all these people? Are they really my friends?
I swear i've never seen some of them before, and others are married!

Some have changed so much it took me more than 15 photos before i finally recognized them. They should be models really. In fact, i'm sure they'll make great models.

This brings me to the issue of change. Whenever people look at me, the most they'll comment is that my cheeks have become chubbier. Either that, or even after 10 years of not seeing me, they say i haven't changed at all.

Maybe i Am living in the past. Or maybe all the changes to me are in my head.
Have i grown older compared to my poly years?

No doubt i've seen a lot more. Deaths, heartbreaks, rejections, weddings(2 coming up in Sept), friends come and go, troubles, new policies by the govt, politics both in and out of the office, going to various churches, meeting new people and so much more.

Yet all these only serves to make me feel older. I remember myself saying back then that instead of feeling 19, i feel 51.

Perhaps now i can say that instead of feeling 23, i feel 42. I just don't.. feel young.

Time and time again i keep trying to change, but it just doesn't seem to happen.

Some of my greatest dreams and hopes, still remain as dreams and hopes. To what extent have i grown nearer to them?

I get a little jealous when my friends tell me their plans for the future. How they're going to study, and then work or set up their own company.

Me? I don't even know what i want to study. Though i know that i must.

Perhaps i've always been too much of a 'anything will do' kind of person. I can ask for an apple, but if i get an orange, i'll just shrug and go for orange juice instead. After all, if I don't expect too much and something happens, at least i can be pleasantly surprised then being disappointed.

Only that somehow i feel like i've locked my heart up somewhere. Most of the time i'm so logical that i wonder where my emotions have fled to. And then my emotions will come out at a surge somewhere in the year, and i'll start feeling depressed, life is meaningless and everything.

Sometimes i wonder why i even bother.
Oh crap, time to stop before the emotions catch up.

22 Aug, 2007 - Monday - Meet the MP session - Cats issue -

There has been an uproar in the westenders side of the Cat Welfare Society as of late. 2 women has been coming along, and catching strays in our neighbourhood, and causing some of us some major heartbreak.

Imagine you feed a cat responsibly for a few years, develop bonds with him/her, and then suddenly one day, he/she's gone. Catnapped by someone.

How would you feel?

When we did eventually made contact with the 2 women, they claimed they were sent by the town council. We checked, and they were indeed sent by the TC, based on a complaint by a resident.

Seems like this resident had a cat sit on his car for a while, and perhaps stank it or something. We offered to pass him some anti-cat spray, but he just decided it'll be better if there were no cats in the area, and so he complained.

And based on that 'loud' complaint, the tc has decided to renege on the previous agreement we had 2 years ago about not culling cats, and called the 2 women in.

And because its not just a few cats that have been seized, we're looking at maybe 8 missing cats or more, and we all know that there's a high chance they'll be put down after they're caught, we decided to meet up at a moment's notice, and meet the mp on monday.

Its the first time i've ever seen the mp, and the first time that i've ever waited outside the centre as well. We had to register and get numbers, like they were queueing up to see the doctor.

After waiting for a while, all 7 of us, from various races and ages went in. Karen presented her case to the mp, and basically spoke all the way to the end. The rest of us just nodded along, while i listened and looked.

From the beginning, i could tell that he thinks of this as a headache. The moment he said, "So.. Cats huh?", somehow i knew it isn't going to turn out very well. He did mention that in his personal opinion it would be better if there were less cats in Singapore, considering the incident he had with his neighbour's cat which came over to his place and poo-ed on his lawn. And how it stank.

Suffice to say he did promise to send a letter to the TC, and the next day i heard from Karen that they're going to have a meeting with her on friday at 10am. Lets just hope this works out fine for all of us.

Computer jokes

IF YOU THINK YOU'RE DUMB WHEN IT COMES TO COMPUTERS, READ THIS AND YOU'LL FEEL BETTER.

Take heart, anyone among you who believes he or she is technologically challenged, you "ain't seen nuthin" yet. This is an excerpt from a Wall Street Journal article:

1. Compaq is considering changing the command "Press Any Key" to "Press Return Key" because of the flood of calls asking where the "Any" key is.

2. AST technical support had a caller complaining that her mouse was hard to control with the dust cover on. The cover turned out to be the plastic bag the mouse was packaged in.

3. Another Dell customer called to say he couldn't get his computer to fax anything. After 40 minutes of troubleshooting, the technician discovered the man was trying to fax a piece of paper by holding it in front of the monitor screen and hitting the "Send" key.

4. Yet another Dell customer called to complain that his keyboard no longer worked. He had cleaned it by filling up his bathtub with soap and water and soaking the keyboard for a day, then removing all the keys and washing them individually.

5. A Dell technician received a call from a customer who was enraged because his computer had told him he was "Bad and an invalid." The tech explained that the computer's "bad command" and "invalid" responses shouldn't be taken personally.

6. A confused caller to IBM was having trouble printing documents. He told the technician that the computer had said it "couldn't find printer."
The user had also tried turning the computer screen to face the printer-but that his computer still couldn't "see" the printer.

7. An exasperated caller to Dell Computer Tech Support couldn't get her new Dell Computer to turn on. After ensuring the computer was plugged in, the technician asked her what happened when she pushed the power button. Her response, "I pushed and pushed on this foot pedal and nothing happened." The "foot pedal" turned out to be the computer's mouse...

8. Another customer called Compaq tech support to say her brand new computer wouldn't work. She said she unpacked the unit, plugged it in and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for something to happen. When asked what happened when she pressed the power switch, she asked, "What power switch?"

9. Another IBM customer had trouble installing software and rang for support. "I put in the first disk, and that was OK. It said to put in the second disk, and had some problems with the disk. When it said to put in the third disk, I couldn't even fit it in..." The user hadn't realized that "Insert Disk 2" implied removing Disk 1 first.

10. A story from a Novell NetWare SysOp:
CALLER: "Hello, is this Tech Support?"
TECH: "Yes, it is. How may I help you?"
CALLER: "The cup holder on my PC is broken -and I am within my warranty period. How do I go about getting that fixed?"
TECH: "I'm sorry, but did you say a cup holder?"
CALLER: "Yes, it's attached to the front of my computer."
TECH: "Please excuse me. If I seem a bit stumped, it's because I am. Did you receive this as part of a promotional at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder? Does it have any trademark on it?"
CALLER: "It came with my computer. I don't know anything about a promotional. It just has '4X' on it." At this point, the Tech Rep had to mute the caller because he couldn't stand it. He was laughing too hard. The caller had been using the load drawer of the CD-ROM drive as a cup holder and it had snapped it off the drive.

11. A woman called the Canon help desk with a problem with her printer.
The tech asked her if she was "running it under windows."
The woman responded, "No, my desk is next to the door. But that is a good point.
The man sitting in the cubicle next to me is under a window and his printer is working fine."

12. And last but not least:
TECH SUPPORT: "O.K. Bob, let's press the control and escape keys at the same time. That brings up a task list in the middle of the screen. Now type the letter "P" to bring up the Program Manager."
CUSTOMER: "I don't have a 'P'".
TECH SUPPORT: "On your keyboard, Bob."
CUSTOMER: "What do you mean?"
TECH SUPPORT: " 'P' on your keyboard, Bob."
CUSTOMER: "I'm not going to do that!"

The past few days

As with 'mutiple entries rolled into one' posts, this entry will try to summarize all that i've done in the past 4-5 days, which isn't easy, considering i've been through quite a bit.

On thursday night i met up with ws for Rush Hour 3, which is a must watch if you haven't already done so. The combination of jacky-chris combination just rocks, and if you stay on til the end, they even showed how Jacky mis-pronounces several words, and its just really funny.

After that, i met Jack for supper after he finished his consultation with the doctor. He must have been much sicker than he looked, because his medical bill came up to a whopping $112.00.

After some wanton mee, we headed over to someplace quiet, and we just talked about politics in general, and a bit about odex, which has been worrying a lot of people.

and contrary to what Jack says, i'm not a wannabe lawyer. In fact i don't intend to further at all, so chances of me being a lawyer at this time is just 1% okay?

Went for my dental appointment the next day. This is my fourth visit to AH for my root canal treatment, and i had to expand a day's leave on this.

Thankfully it took an hour, and the DO has a very sweet voice and eyes. What's the link? It helps when people talk to you in a calm reassuring tone, sweetness is a bonus of course, when they ask you to open your mouth and they put dangerous looking things i wouldn't let my kids play with in.

You get the idea? I think i'll be pretty worried if its a muscle man standing there frowning at me. But that's just me.

I must say this RCT thing with the temporary crown makes it harder for me to chew on my left(treatment on the right side of my mouth), anyone has this problem or is it just me again?

Didn't do anything much other than playing some Valkyrie Profile.

Saturday saw me going to CHC again for a guest talk by Joyce Meyers. She's a 62 year old granny(self termed) who has been through a very bad childhood, and she was preaching about doing things NOW. Live in the moment, instead of regretting the past and worrying about the future.

Its a powerful and good message. Thankfully i managed to stay on til the end before i rushed off for the hougang dinner. Had to take a cab from Tampines, which cost me $9 =/

However, i made it just in time. Had i taken the bus i would have been really late. The dinner was good, i saw Ms Sylvia after a very long time and we caught up a bit. I've seen Mr and Mrs Low before, Kenneth, Clara and Songhan. Julia was new, and another guy whom i can't remember the name.

The dinner was more than worth the $9, cause Ms Sylvia drove me back home. We had a little chat regarding the annuities, and in general.

Oh, saturday was nice.

Had to wake up real early on Sunday cause its hammer sales day. Reached Yishun at 8:35am, and the locality map doesn't show where ChongPang is! I had to call Gavin who gave me wrong instructions =/ Thankfully i asked around some people and i found the way, but by the time i reached i was sweating like crazy. No more wearing 2 shirts for me.

My first hammer sales, afraid i'm too thin-skinned for it at the moment, cause i just hung around watching the veterans do it. I'll get it in time i suppose.

Went for a nice lunch after that, and then to HQ. Lets skip the side trip.. i don't want to remember.

Afternoon was WP youth wing elections, and the VP seat was uncontested. The 3 exco seats Would have been uncontested, until Bernard nominated me. Since i wanted to vote and see what its like, i decided to stand for it. Winnie was nominated after me.

I had to make a short speech, which wasn't as difficult as i thought, and it was all rather exciting. Yet the most exciting part was when they were counting the votes. I was half afraid i'll get in, because i wasn't sure i was ready for this yet, but thankfully i didnt, though i almost did.

I actually had a talk with Zhengxi from theonlinecitizen.com, and i did my first ever interview. Haha. It was interesting to say the least.

They then did a video of the new ex-co committee, and interviewed them further.

After everything, i took a lift from Winnie again, and went to Taka where i met up with Davyd, Yenting and Jiahui. Zacky joined us later at the village.

Suffice to say we had loads of fun, though we couldn't finish the food (we let it get cold for too long, and it tasted horrible).

I'll post up the pics at night, and bear with me hor, cause i'm still trying to get a decent keyboard up at home. Imagine not being able to press shift and ctrl!

Til then, cheerios!

Singaporean Cycling Trip in Japan

Okay, in my quest to bring you more interesting posts and events in this little country, let me introduce you to my friend Gabriel Chin.

He's a navy medic mate, and though we don't talk much, he's the best gamer i've ever known. For example, i achieved a high score of 250k for my Lumines 2, and he achieved 500k. And i thought i was pretty good at it. Damn.

He's amazing at Guitar heroes as well, and owns an xbox 360 and a ps2 at the moment.

Yet, he has an athletic side to him. I believe his bicycle costs at least 2k, and he's used it to bike to work several times, as well as to places in Malaysia.

And now, he's attempting to cycle through Japan with only his bike, his bags, and his limited vocab of Japanese. You got to admire his guts really.

I quote his blog, "My trip's duration is planned for 3 months and i am cycling ALONE. I have never been to Japan before and i do not speak Japanese (i have taken 1 semester of Basic Japanese in Ngee Ann Polytechnic though, though besides that fact no other memory of that class remains). Put it down to foolishness or maybe a bit of over-confidence on my part, but any factors that stack up against me completing my trip will only make my journey more challenging and exciting."

So is he a nutcase, a hero or just plain crazy?

Do check out his site at Japancyclingtrip.blogspot.com

And did i forget to mention he's actually taking the flight to Japan today?
Leave some comments and lets follow his story together.

This is a picture of Gabriel with his bike:

15th August 2007 - News Good/Bad -

Before i start, i'll like to quote my friend Mandy.

"i believe in doing stuff together
makes us learn to work with each other more
and also learn new things bout each other
coz i believe generally, 2 ppl come togehter, they r already have their own differences
y make more
should start to make more similarities"

I saw her msn nick for many days, and it has been bugging me.

"Mandy - almost ma rr ied"

What i remember was that she was recovering from a breakup some time ago.
Wah, i couldn't be more wrong. Seems she has been happily in love for a year now, and now they're getting married!

And its on the 20th of Sept. Which is 10 days before Priscilla's wedding.

I managed to get her to give me a card. Heh. Though i just realised that i'll probably be alone in a sea of happy strangers. But at least the mood is happy..

Btw Mandy is my Orientation camp mate in Pre-tp days. We had fun in that few days.. A bond was formed between all of us, and though much of it has faded in these past few years, i'm still friends with her and well, the last i saw of her was actually on her 21st birthday at her house in Tiong Bahru.

Its been that long huh. And she said i grew chubbier. I know ! Trust me, i know~

2: Barry's wife is pregnant, but they suspected that something could be wrong, so they went for a blood test today. We'll know more tomorrow, so i'll just end this topic here.

3: Someone from above shot down an email. And now me and my boss got so much lot more stuff to do. Actually just me, but bleh. I think that person has too much time on her hands.

4: Gavin's grandpa died. I didn't hear about it until Yong Wei told me about it. Wanted to go down today, but i didn't bring the discs with me to pass it to them, so might as well bring it tomorrow.

5: Coincidentally, my bro and mom went to my bro's friend's grandpa's wake.

6: Coincidentally, my sister also left for a wake today. Her good friend's brother drowned. Think he's about my age..

Yea, to think i was about to go to a wake today. One family 3 wakes?

But i was feeling that life was kinda meaningless just now. Yesterday i was feeling downright depressed.

Guess life will start picking up from tomorrow onwards.

On a sidenote: Mandy said that my blog should be interesting because i quoted her Wah, i really nothing to say lor.

Come in and see that its more interesting then you think!

Funny videos

I saw this on a website and i was thoroughly entertained.

You HAVE to see this.

Always keep your mobile phone with you, especially when you're married

Here's why...

There are several men sitting around in the locker room of a private club. Suddenly a cell phone on one of the benches rings. One of the men picks it up, and the following conversation ensues:

"Hello?"
"Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"
"Yes."
"Great! I am at the mall two blocks from where you are. I just saw a beautiful mink coat. It's Only $1,500! Can I buy it?"
"Well, OK, go ahead and get it if you like."
"Thanks Sweetie. I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the 2001 models. I saw one I really liked. I spoke with the salesman, and he gave me a really good price... and since we need to exchange the BMW that we bought last year..."
"What price did he quote you?"
"Only $60,000 ... "
"OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."
"Great! But before we hang up, something else... It might sound like a lot, but I was reconciling your bank account and I stopped by the real estate agent this morning and saw the house we had looked at last year. It's on sale! Remember? The one with a pool, English Garden, acre of park area, beach front property."
"How much are they asking?"
"Only $450,000 - a magnificent price...and I see that we have enough in the bank to cover the down payment."
"Well, then go ahead and buy it, but just bid $420,000. OK?"
"OK, sweetie... Thanks! I'll see you later! I love you!"
"Bye. I love you too."

The man hangs up, closes the phone's flap, and raises his hand and calls out:

"Does anyone know who this phone belongs to?"

national day flag entry

On another note, i would like to write about National Day.

One would term it a normal occurrence, for everyone of us to hang out National flags about 3-4 days before National Day. In fact, this is a regularity that has been happening for the past 23 years at least, and one would remember the reports a few years ago, where home owners mistakenly displayed their National flag in the wrong position, upside down, or have several clothes or articles blocking the flag, were fined, and had photos of their mistakes published.

Up to this year. As the days slowly led up to National Day, i note with increasing interest that most people did not bother to hang their pristine, sparkling new National Flags. In fact, looking out of my windows, i only saw 2 flags, and i was supposed to see at least 80.
On National Day itself, i realised that this is not just happening in Jurong area. Everywhere i went, it was the same story. What is happening? Is it really National Day, or was it just me?

Or was it the slew of unpopular policies that has provoked the everyday citizens so much, that they have resorted to 'abstain' from displaying their flags? Perhaps as a form of silent protest, seeing that the ones online and on the media does not help. We know the outcome of the protests; nothing will change their mind once the decision is made(Remember the IR, the ministeral pay issues?).
Throughout the years, we have associated and cross referenced PAP, the govt and Singapore so much that now, Singapore = PAP. Perhaps because of that, not hanging up Singapore flag = not supporting PAP?

At a time when the economy is at its highest, we have seen everything rise except for our own modest salaries. They talked about closing the income disparity gap, but they handed out astronomical bonuses to the top of the civil sector, and a 3-5% bonus for the people at the bottom.

Let’s not touch on the private sector here.
At a time when the salaries at the top rises more than three-fold and the ones at the bottom are repressed just to stay 'competitive'. We need to question ourselves whether this is right, and if these type of policies are what we truly want.

City of possibilities or city of fluff?

I was reading This article, and generally it sums up most of the grievances i have with the current ruling party. Do read it. Its very interesting, and even if you're Pro-PAP, it shows you what most people are dissatisfied with the govt now.

14 Aug 2007 - God has a weird sense of humour -

Have you ever heard of that saying?

God has a weird sense of humour?
I think its true.

After being 'casually talked to' by my boss about not reaching the office on the dot, i decided to wake up 20 minutes earlier, so that i could leave home earlier.

Lo & Behold, i reached the bus stop at 8:10am, more than sufficient for the 5 minutes bus ride to work. But atlas, it was not meant to be. I had to wait for 18 minutes. 18 minutes before my bus came, and whizzed away because it was jammed pack.
Another bus came 2 minutes later.

Why, oh why, do the buses like to stick together? During my 18 minute stint, i saw 3-4 feeder services pass by, at least 4-5 buses of 98 and 99, usually linked, and even 2-3 187 buses pass by, and they weren't even fully packed.

So what's wrong with 198 man? Why do they have to do this to me?

On another hand i saw this new service, a premium bus. I'll show you all the pics at night. The bus looks just like a normal double-decked bus, but the sign looks different of course.

Growl. And they still want to raise transport fees...

Went to IMM for lunch cause i wanted to get something from Singpost. Didn't quite get it though. Had BK for lunch, before taking the bus back.

Not harping on work, towards the end of the day i felt increasingly down, and as i listened to Boulevard of Broken dreams, i swear tears almost fell. Had to change songs(multiple times. too many sappy love songs).

Wanted to get a drink, but after going to 7-11 i didn't know what to buy. Was further demoralised when i saw my bank balance.

Reached home, watched 4-5 episodes of friends at one go, and that made me feel better. Had dinner and then went for a short cycling trip alone.

Many thoughts flew by, and i also consolidated the attendence for David's sunday birthday celebration. Turns out we're just going for dinner.

Returned home, tried to upload some pictures, but somehow the computer isn't detecting my phone. Well, it does every other second, and that's not a good sign. I just got this phone man.

I'm tired.. sigh.

God has a weird sense of humour huh?

And yea, you can't lose what you never had..~

The 'Premium' bus with a flat rate of $3. Whew.

Random kitty pics. They keep moving when i'm trying to take pics of them! All of them thinks i want to play with them.. its hard to take decent photos. Their original pose was okay, but then they decided to move when i want to take a pic of them. =/

Some thoughts i got from my old phone

These are some of the thoughts that i saved inside my old phone, and took some time to recover them and bring them to light.

I'll be putting them out on days when i got nothing to blog, sorta like today, so er, can tag me or sms me to let me know yr views k?

I'll start with these 3.

Why do we stop beliving in ourself? Why do we let facts and figures and anything but dreams rule our lives? Nothing is impossible.

Being unsure and indecisive may lead others to think you don't want something, and you may end up with nothing. Don't voice out in the last minute, though doing that may sometimes be bettter than being silent.

Being creative is to do things out of the textbook.
Go with your feelings and walk proud in a foreign unxplored land, or rather an unknown street.

comments please..~

A story that i barely remember

I was reading Starlove's entry when i decided to leave a comment.
This comment made me remember a little story i read somewhere, so i'll type it down below.

Not exactly what i read, but you get the gist.

Picture a glass cup.
Would it be heavier when its full? or half full?
How long would you be able to hold it if its full, and how long will you be able to, if its half full?

The question here is that it doesn't matter how heavy the glass is.
When you have to realise is that a burden, no matter how light or heavy it is, will slowly become unbearable if you don't set it down.

When it gets too heavy, remember. Put it down and rest and recharge, before picking it up again. You'll find that its much lighter.

13th August 2007 - Monday the 13th! - First day of Lunar Month -

Pretty much a normal monday.

Actually wanted to do a short cycling trip to nowhere to unwind, but as i was on the way home i saw people burning loads of stuff, and knew instinctively that its a bad time to do any physical activity.

In fact it got so bad i could even smell it when i reached home.

I think i shocked my 'neighbour' though. Well i got this inkling suspicion that this lady that i see once a while when taking the bus is my neighbour, ever since she passed me the rental some months back.

What i did was while waiting for the lift, i decided to walk on and take a look at the people burning their incense and joss papers. Just at that exact moment she walked by, and pressed for the lift. As i said, the lift was coming down pretty quick, so it must have looked like i followed her into the lift.

Since she pressed the button for for my floor anyways, i figured it must be her! So i waited for her to exit the lift, but she was waiting for me, so bleh, i just walked out real quick and on to home.

I didn't see or hear anyone coming down the stairs though, so it was pretty weird.
Is it just me? Or i scare her, or she's not my neighbour at all?

It doesn't matter, now that i've blogged it, I can put this issue at rest now.

Hmm, one of those off days. Don't feel typing much.

On a completely unrelated note, i can't believe Lehmann made that mistake in yesterday's match. That's so noobish!

And Federer and Djovic's finals were very exciting. Makes me want to play some tennis myself..

12 Aug 2007 - Slack + Pool + Botak Jones! -

Was another relatively slack day, since i couldn't get anyone out for movies or anything, eventually met Weixiang for pool at West Coast RC.

We played our fastest game ever. We cleared the table in less than 5 minutes. I had like 3-4 turns before i shot the black 8 ball in. Which means i shot in 1-3 balls per turn. And i took less than 3 seconds per shot! That's truly amazing.

Things slowly evened out until we were playing 'regularly' again, by the end of 3-4 games. Haha. Guess our form only lasted us for a bit.

Right, Xuting was with Weixiang, but she just watched and didn't play. Irregardless, we were there for only about an hour, before we went to Clementi central. It was raining really heavily, and thankfully both Weixiang and Xuting had umbrellas, so i was safe.

Walked over to Clementi Central, bade goodbye to XT who was meeting her parents for dinner, then we proceeded to the 'Botak Jones' coffeeshop. Sat down, ordered, and 20 minutes later our food came.

It was really filling and whew, i haven't eaten so much for a long time... Went home after that. And yea, tried to take some pictures of the various cats i saw on my way back, but could only take one. And that's only because there was a fat mean cat at the bottom waiting for the small kitten to come down so she can attack him/her.

Poor kitten.

Went home, and Dad asked me what i want to do at WP. I just told them i couldn't stand PAP's policies anymore, and i know what i'm doing. Anyways i predict this is but the first skirmish we're going to have. Everyone is entitled to his/her own believes(hey, my sister is Pro-PAP too. I just realised that. Hey wait, that makes the entire family pro-PAP. Once again i'm standing out), but if its deluded, i think i have to let them see what's right and wrong.

This is different from religion, where no one can say for real who's right or wrong. This time, we just need to lay the facts out on the table. Truth will prevail~

Alright, this is the article that they did for the National Day outreach. My quote is there, so do click here and see it okay?

Hugh Grant & Drew Barrymore - Way back into love

Very nice song that i fell in love the first time i heard it..

Here's the video and lyrics..

I've been living with a shadow overhead
I've been sleeping with a cloud above my bed
I've been lonely for so long
Trapped in the past
I just can't seem to move on

I've been hiding all my hopes and dreams away
Just in case I ever need them again someday
I've been setting aside time
To clear a little space in the corners of my mind

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
Oh oh oh

I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine
I've been searching but i just don't see the signs
I know that it's out there
There's got to be something for my soul somewhere

I've been looking for someone to shed some light
Not somebody just to get me through the night
I could use some direction
And I'm open to your suggestions

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart again
I guess I'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end

Oh oh oh

There are moments when I don't know if it's real
Or if anybody feels the way I feel
I need inspiration
Not just another negotiation

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart to you
I'm hoping you'll show me what to do
And if you help me to start again
You know that I'll be there for you in the end

Oh oh oh

11 August 2007 - Day of slack - Canadian Pizza -

Didn't do anything much the whole day, other than to sleep, eat, sleep and eat and slack. Didn't feel like going out today, and just felt tired. Supposed to meet Benson for lunch, but postponed to dinner, which was further postponed to some date in the future when he decided to go ktv.

Talked to Starlove in the afternoon, who updated me on her 'love' life. Haha. Dunno if its one or two sided. You know it more than i do. Was fun catching up though.

Not much updates, so let the pictures tell the story...

Look what came through the mail today..~ My first 'red bomb'. Okay, it was entirely in white, but you get the idea. My secondary school mate is getting married and i'm invited! Its my first ever friend's wedding dinner! Somehow, i feel very happy for them..~

Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner pics:
